These terms apply to your use of solarpowerfix.com ("Solar Power Fix", "the site", "we"). By using the site, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
Who we are and how to reach us
Solar Power Fix is an independent website about home solar in the United States. It is not a solar installer, contractor, utility, lender or government agency. The fastest way to reach us about anything on the site, including these terms, is contact@solarpowerfix.com.
What the site does
We publish rankings of solar installers built from public records (utility and state installation records compiled by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, state program records and city building permits), profiles of the companies in those rankings, and guides about costs, incentives and repairs. We don't install, repair, inspect or sell solar equipment, and we don't hold any contractor license.
Rankings and company information
- Rankings reflect how many systems a company installed, or how many permits it pulled, in a given period according to public records. They are not a measure of quality, price or customer service, and they are not an endorsement or recommendation.
- Public records can be incomplete, delayed or wrong, and companies change names, merge and close. We check closures against news reports, but information can be out of date.
- No company pays to appear in a ranking, to rank higher or to be left out.
- If you represent a company and something about it is wrong, email us from an address at your company's domain and we will review it. We can correct how we read the records; we can't change the records themselves.
Dealing with a company
We don't take quote or repair requests or pass anyone's details to solar companies. If you contact a company listed on the site, any agreement you make is between you and that company; Solar Power Fix is not a party to it and is not responsible for its performance. Always check a contractor's license, insurance and references before signing.
No professional advice
Everything on the site is general information. It is not financial, tax, legal, electrical or engineering advice for your situation. Tax rules and incentives change, and the right system depends on your home, your utility and your finances. Confirm important decisions with a qualified professional, such as a tax preparer for tax questions or a licensed electrician for electrical problems. Never open or work on solar equipment yourself: panels produce dangerous voltage whenever the sun is up.
Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the site, including by sending us false or someone else's information, attempting to disrupt or overload the site, or trying to access parts of it that aren't public.
Content and data
The text, design and analysis on the site belong to Solar Power Fix. You may quote short passages with a link to the source page. The underlying public records remain subject to their own terms; for example, Tracking the Sun is published by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory under a CC BY 4.0 license.
Links to other sites
We link to news reports, government sources, manufacturers and Google Maps listings. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, availability or practices.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness and fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, Solar Power Fix is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from your use of the site, from decisions made based on its content, or from your dealings with any company listed or contacted through it. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.
Changes
We may update these terms. The version on this page is the one that applies, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
