Between 2023 and 2025, 146 companies pulled 2,445 permits for solar panels on homes in Austin. Horus Partners pulled the most (411, or 17%), followed by Tesla Energy (173) and Power Home Remodeling (165). Every company in the ranking was still pulling permits in 2025; installers that have since closed are left out.
This ranking counts residential solar permits issued in the city, not finished installations: a few permits are never completed, and the permit is filed by the licensed company doing the work, which is usually but not always the company that sold the system. Permit records don't include prices or whether a system is leased.

Comparing quotes in Austin?
Divide each quote's total, before incentives, by the system size in watts. Across Texas, homeowners who bought their system paid a median of $3.83/W in 2021–2023. Reject any 2026 quote that subtracts a 30% federal tax credit from a purchase: that credit ended in 2025.

2026: 297 permits in the records so far. The year isn't complete, so it isn't counted in the ranking.
Home Solar Across Texas
City permits record who installed each system, but not what it cost or whether it was leased. For that, here is the picture across Texas.
Utilities in Texas reported 81,647 homes with rooftop solar in July 2026, averaging 13.1 kW per home. That is 2,272 more than a year earlier (+3%). Texas ranks 16 of 44 states by homes with solar. Home batteries paired with those systems add up to 15 MW.
In 2021–2023 utility records that cover part of Texas, homeowners who bought their system paid a median of $3.83/W before incentives and the typical system was 8.6 kW. 8% included a home battery.

Solar Panel Repair in Austin
When a system stops producing, the best first call is an established local company. The companies ranked above pulled permits in Austin through 2025, so they know the equipment on local roofs. Many will service a system they didn't install, but not all — ask before you book, and expect a diagnostic fee.

Installers That Closed or Went Bankrupt in Austin
Companies that have since closed, liquidated or filed for bankruptcy pulled 237 home solar permits in Austin since 2019. They are left out of the ranking above. If one of them installed your system, its workmanship warranty is likely gone — but panel and inverter warranties come from the manufacturer and usually survive the installer.

What Your Warranty Still Covers If the Installer Is Gone
- Panels and inverters: covered by the manufacturer, not the installer. Find the brand on the inverter label or in your monitoring app and contact the manufacturer directly.
- Workmanship and roof leaks: usually a promise from the installer. If the installer is in bankruptcy, that warranty may be delayed or discharged; file a claim in the case if one is open.
- Leases and PPAs: the system belongs to the finance company, and most contracts make it responsible for maintenance even if the installer that sold it is gone. Call the company you pay each month and check your contract.
- Loans: keep paying. A closed installer does not cancel a solar loan.
Any of the active companies in the ranking can take over service, file the warranty claim with the manufacturer and restore monitoring.
Solar in Austin: Common Questions
Who installs the most solar panels in Austin?
In the three most recent complete years (2023–2025), Horus Partners pulled 411 permits for solar on homes in Austin, more than any other company. Tesla Energy (173) and Power Home Remodeling (165) came next. Volume shows local experience, not workmanship, so compare quotes and reviews before choosing.
Who repairs solar panels in Austin?
Start with the companies in the ranking above: Horus Partners, Tesla Energy and Power Home Remodeling did the most work here, and an installer that knows the equipment on local roofs can usually diagnose a fault faster. If your system was leased or is on a PPA, call the company you pay each month first — maintenance is normally its job.
Can I still get the federal solar tax credit in 2026?
Not as a homeowner buying the system: the 30% residential credit (Section 25D) ended on December 31, 2025. Be wary of any quote that still subtracts it from the price. See our 2026 solar tax credit guide for what's left.
What if my solar installer went out of business?
Your panels and inverters are still covered by their manufacturers' warranties; what you lose is the installer's workmanship warranty and service. See the installers that closed in Austin and what your warranty still covers.
What do homeowners in Austin pay for electricity?
Residential customers in Texas pay an average of 15.94¢ per kWh, 9% below the national average. The higher the rate, the faster solar pays for itself. Source: EIA, Electric Power Monthly, Table 5.6.A.
How This Ranking Works
Installers are ranked by the number of residential solar permits they pulled here between 2023 and 2025, the three most recent complete years. The City of Austin publishes every permit it issues, with the company that applied for it. Utility installation records don't name installers here, so permits are the best public record available. Nobody pays to be listed or to rank higher.
- We keep residential permits for solar panels and count one permit per address per year, so revisions of the same job don't count twice.
- An installer needs at least 10 permits in that period and at least one in 2025 or later. Electricians who pull permits under their own name, not a company's, are left out.
- Company names were standardized: "Sunrun Installation Services Inc." and "SUNRUN INSTALLATION SVS INC" are the same company.
- Companies that have closed or filed for bankruptcy are removed from the ranking and listed separately, with a link to the news report.
What this ranking does not measure: workmanship, customer service, price, or how a company treats you after the sale. A permit count shows how active a company is in the area, not quality. Get at least three quotes, check each company's license and read recent reviews before you sign.
